1926 Having disappeared from her Surrey home on the 3rd of December, Agatha Christie was found staying under an assumed name at the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate, with no recollection of how she came to be in Yorkshire.

1878 London’s Holburn Viaduct was illuminated by electricity, to give Britain its first street lighting. The world’s first street lighting had been in Lyons, France, as early as 1857.

1996 The designs for the proposed single European currency were unveiled in Dublin. The 7 notes in denominations from 5 to 500 Euros, were to be available from 1/1/99 and would be in circulation from 2002.
